About the Authors Life
Susan Eloise Hinton, more known as S.E. Hinton, was born in Oklahoma. S.E. Hinton began writing novels to cope with school. She wrote The Outsiders at age seventeen. Because of her unique style and the way she wrote The Outsiders became very popular all over the U.S. Because it took off so fast, S.E. Hinton was in shock. This made her experience intense writing block. She did not write for three years since The Outsiders. Her future husband, David Inhofe, helped her to begin writing again. She published many works after The Outsiders. Writing was a way for her to relax the pain in life and get away. She will be remembered for her new writing style and different attitude.

Comparison
S.E. Hinton could have made comparisons between the people she met in high school and the developed characters in the book. Many authors of the time are not this young and can not represent the characters as well because they are not living in it. S.E. Hinton writes about two gangs and the struggles that they face, death, violence, drugs, and crime. These things very well could have happened at her school.
