The Take Away The Outsiders is a book that is very raw because it does not try to sugar up anything. It includes danger, vulgar language, and escaping the law. Because of this it's not a typical read. Some parts of the book are surprising. It was a straight-forward book and real. Even though it had these things, the morals of the story were of high quality. Difference in people is abundant and everyone has some changes. The most obvious one is the socs and the greasers, but within the greaser party each one of them has a different story. This does not mean that they are not similar though. "It seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one I saw from the back steps was the same one. Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset." (40-41) I think this quote means that we all have subtle differences, but in the end we are all just sharing the same world and have more similarities than differences. Friends can also make or break life. The bonds the boys have for each other are strong. This influences each characters actions. The gang will do absolutely anything to protect their friends. Everyone can learn to get along, but it wont always be easy. Some people will be easier to relate to. Another lesson to take away is to never judge people by the way they look or act if you don't know where they came from. Most of the greasers were born poor and lived a rough childhood. The socs were born into rich families. Both gangs have a natural tendency to hate eachother because of the way they were born.
My Rating I thought this book was decent overall. It got more thrilling as the book progressed. I also felt more for the characters the further I read. It had some life lessons to ponder about.
